Description
"Turkeys In The Snow" by Debbie Oppermann. Driving on rural roads near Fergus Ontario Canada, I was pleased to see a small flock of wild Turkeys feeding in a roadside field at the edge of a forest. Wild turkeys were extirpated (locally extinct) from Ontario as a result of habitat loss and over-hunting. Reintroduction efforts began in 1984. Turkeys are now a common sight in southern Ontario and they are continuing to expand their range. Did you know that turkeys have over 6,000 feathers and that they can run up to 19km per hour? They are classed as ground birds but they do fly up into trees to roost for the night.
